Music & Video
MUSIC
I am a composer whose work encompasses elements of classical, indie rock and traditional Irish music. Having studied piano as a kid, the piano often takes on a primary roll in my work. But I am also drawn toward the colors of the orchestra, the Uilleann pipes and tin whistle, and the many possibilities of the digital audio workstation. I love mixing the analog warmth of real instruments with the electronic sounds of synths and manipulated sounds.
If you like my music, you can download it for free and use it for non-commercial purposes (recitals, concerts, etc.). I've chosen not to sell my music because I believe its value lies in being heard and shared, not in being commodified. The current music distribution system often yields little financial return for independent artists, and I'd rather my work be out in the world, connecting with people.
VIDEO
My video work brings together my creative passions—music and visual art—into a single form. I compose original music and pair it with my own videography and editing, creating works that move fluidly between sound and image. Many of these pieces are grounded in the natural world, reflecting my ongoing engagement with environmental imagery and concerns. Through video, I aim to create meditative experiences that invite viewers to reflect on our relationship to the environment and the interconnectedness of us all.
"Arbor Vitae" - works for solo piano
This book of piano music spans my time at Juilliard, EAMA and beyond. Some of these pieces came out of academic assignments that I thought were strong enough to live beyond my notebooks. I've organized them around the theme of "arbor vitae" or tree of life - a nod to my environmentalist beliefs and a love of native gardening. This project was made possible in part, by a 2025 Individual Artist Finalist Award from the NJ State Council on the Arts. You can download the book for free using the link below. A printed book is available for $20+shipping. Please email me at rjocon@mac.com to order.
